What To Expect

Rose Hall Great House
This Rose Hall Great House is an early 18th century plantation home that sits on a high elevation on thousands of acres in Rose Hall, Montego Bay. The Rose Hall Great House was once owned by the famous and certainly one of the wickedest plantation owners to walk the land of Jamaica, Annie Palmer. She owned hundreds of slaves. This house became haunted after her gruesome death in 1831. The house is scary to look at even in the daytime. There is no stop at the Rose all Great House on your way to Negril however, your tour guide will tell you the history and slow down so that you can take photos.

Greenwood Great House
The Greenwood Great House (Plantation home) was constructed in the early 18th Century. Like most, if not all the other Great Houses in Jamaica, the Greenwood Great House was built at high elevation. One could say that this was a strategy used back in the plantation era as a means of overlooking the plantation and also for security purposes. This house, unlike the Rose Hall Great House, is not haunted but of a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The history and the architecture of the house is what will blow you away. As you pass by, feel free to take photos when your tour guide slows down.

Columbus Park
Columbus Park Discovery Bay

The town of Discovery Bay is where you will find Columbus Park. It was originally named Puerto Seco “Dry Harbour” by Christopher Columbus in 1494 when he and his men landed on the Island. It is said that could not find fresh water to drink. They later found fresh water in another area about 5 miles west of the town. The water was so good that they named the location where it was found Rio Bueno (“Good River”). However, the town of Puerto Seco was later renamed in 1947 to Discovery Bay because Discovery Bay is where the Spanish, lead by Christopher Columbus landed when they invaded the Island on May 4, 1494. There is a park with several old relics and artifacts on display. There will be a brief stop to take photos and capture the rich history of this historic town.

Nine Miles
Bob Marley was born on February 6th, 1945. He died on May 11th, 1981. Visiting this small town is a priority for all tourists, cruise ship and stopover passengers alike from Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Montego Bay and from as far as Negril in the west. Nine Miles is a tiny village in hills of St. Ann where the reggae legend, Bob Marley was born, and fittingly, the place he’s now laid to rest.

Although Bob Marley moved to Kingston at age 13 to live with his mother and to advance his music career, he would often return to Nine Miles to get away from the fast pace life of Kingston. Home is where the heart is and Bob Marley wrote several of his hit songs when he was in St. Ann.

Nine Miles Jamaica was always his home and to have the full experience of Bob Marley; you will have to visit this town. A tour of this settlement will leave you with a greater understanding of the legend Bob became; in fact, the community today is pretty much how it was in Bob Marley’s early days. A Rastafarian tour guide will be on hand to guide you around the property and answer all your questions.

Still present, is his first home and the very bed he slept in as a young child also as an adult when he would return on his many “cooling out” visits. The rock that he used as a pillow, on which he would relax. Quite a few guests have said that they have felt the presence of Bob Marley.

The Nine Mile Tour includes his birth and resting place, what he liked to do and Mount Zion, the spot where he drew his inspiration from to write his songs. Visit the nearby Ethiopian church where his body was laid to rest with his guitar. Please remove your shoes before you enter as a sign of respect. Feel free to look around.

The drive from Montego Bay will be approximately 2 1/2 hours.

Very enjoyable tour, our tour guide, Junior McFarlane (Tourdejam) picked us up promptly from hotel.
Journey was circa 2 hours from hotel, and Junior gave us a very informative overview of history and culture of Jamaica. Lovely drive through the Jamaican countryside and towns. Tour of Bob Marley's Nine Mile site was a great experience, seeing replica of the house he grew up in, viewing his many musical awards/ platinum discs and also drinking the Bob Marley shot - has to be tried to be believed! Wonderful to listen to the band playing Bob's music in this very special place.
Climbing up Sugar Hill and visiting the two mausoleums and the small church was very poignant.
We would recommend the tour as it provided us with opportunity to see Jamaican life outside of the hotel and learn so much more about Bob Marley, his family and music.
Great day out with friends and teenagers to see the great man’s birth place in the mountains of Jamaica

Read the reviews and knew what to expect . There was 18 of us ranging 14 to 70 . The drive up the mountains is where you see the real Jamaica. The roads where bumpy and winding it rained and it was sunny . At the house there where a lot of people selling their wears outside and the drive did ask if we wanted anything . Inside the court yard there are toilets and photo moments . Once we paid in $30 we were taken to a bar .. shots where $10 keep the glass but there was no pressure to buy . You could buy crisps and juice or alcohol. There was a guy going around with a bag selling joints ($(15) and cake . Next was a tour around the rooms we all had a singalong then up to watch the band who took requests and tips .. then a steep walk up to Bobs resting place . Shoes off when visiting some of the rooms and another sing along . A walk back down and the tour was over .. the tour guide did a great job and a put on a great show and was looking for tips … great day out we knew what to expect and as some people had tasted the product it was a great laugh back down the mountain .. we were in a group (18)and paid 30 entrance and 25 for the driver . He took to a place where we could get patties and a beers .. great day out
A must go if you love history and Bob Marley

Being able to spend my 50th birthday here on 11/26/22 was nothing short of Amazing!
Definitely worth the time and money to spend learning some history of the Legendary Bob Marley.. They even sang Happy Birthday to me while I danced below Mt. Zion. To be in the place where Bob grew up is priceless… My 50th birthday by far was the best day ever! Thank You Anthony for calling BoBo too…
An amazingly rich tour!

So first thank you to Garfield who was our driver up to nine miles he was very kind and knowledgeable and even even gave us a history lesson about Jamaica on the ride to nine miles. We got there he instructed us on what to do and what not to do. He was prompt and on time picking us up from our resort. Captain crazy was our tour guide at nine miles who was very knowledgeable and funny from start to finish. This tour will make you fall in love with the culture, Bob Marley, and Jamaica.

We had a great time learning about Bob Marley the legend. Definitely looking forward to sharing my experience with family and friends. The tour guide and driver were excellent and extremely funny.
A must do if you enjoy getting off the beaten trail
Sam_D, 16-01-2023
The drive through the mountains and countryside was very enjoyable. Our driver Garfield was very friendly and informative about the area and pointed out many highlights.
Good but unnecessarily expensive
abby_i, 09-09-2022
Our driver was very knowledgeable and the ride was a very scenic ride. I enjoyed the tour and I also learnt a lot. I feel it is too expensive for just Bob Marley’s house and a round trip.
Long drive up a mountain but worth it!
VACAYISTHEWAY, 06-09-2022
We enjoyed this nostalgic tour of Bob Marley's home and burial site. Tour guide, I believe his name was Barkley, was very informative and did a great job!
This day felt like a real...
Annamarie_K, 19-08-2022
This day felt like a real adventure……. the drive is up through the mountains and there’s lots of little communities along the way to keep you occupied.
Smoke or not Bobs place is interesting and reflects the very chilled vibe here in Jamaica!
For the adventurous I’d definitely recommend
Informative and fun
Johnnie_H, 02-12-2022
The drive was pretty long from Montego Bay but our driver was nice and shared a lot of facts along the way to pass the time. We were given the hard sale for marijuana and CBD products on arrival to nine mile by the Rastafarians there. But they were all kind and taught us about how they use the various products as well. Being from Seattle it wasn’t all that exciting to learn about weed. I hadn’t planned on smoking, but I suppose if you are going to go to Bob Marley’s house you should be baked
Interesting place to visit and learning some of Jamaica's cultura and famous singer's life. The road to arrive the place is so
marthalu10, 18-01-2023
Great cultural place. I did not know to much abut the famous singer, but now I know about him a little bit better. I learned many facts because I asked questions to the guide capitan crazy who was funny and informative but disorganized.
